Description

In this lesson students will be introduced to and practice lexis and phonology associated with common nouns concentrating on the strongest stress with singular and plural forms (e.g. a tissue- tissues). Then students will work individually and complete the list with the missing singular or plural forms.Students will work in pairs to practice speaking questions and answers(e.g.What's this? It's a key.- What're these? They're keys.). With focusing on instructions students will practice following the instructions and match some common phrases with pictures.

Main Aims

  • To practice the pronunciation correctly in the context of common nouns.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To identify the syllable of the word that has the strongest stress
  • To practice following instructions with common phrases.
  • To provide clarification of singular and plural in the context of common nouns

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the Ss some slides contains pictures of some common nouns. Ask them to say what is this and pronounce the words. focus on some syllables with the strongest stress. Ask them to work in pairs and make a conversation. .

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Focus the students' attention on the list of words and point out that they're common words. Point out that the underlined indicates the syllable of the word that has the strongest stress. Check that the students can pronounce the words correctly. Ask the Ss to look at the pictures and match each one of the words.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Point out that the underlined indicates the syllable of the word that has the strongest stress

Clarification (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Check that the students can pronounce the words correctly. Ask Ss to look at the pictures and match each one of the words.

Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ask the Ss to work individually and complete the list with the missing singular or plural forms.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-6 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask the Ss to look at the pictures and match each one with one of the phrases.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The Ss work into pairs to make a conversation and I round and checking that every one is pronouncing the words correctly and using It's and They're.
