To Identify specific information (greetings) in the context of meeting people for the first time.
Subsidiary Aims

To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of greeting people for the first time
Procedure (34-45 minutes)
Show the pictures from the lesson Ask students: -what can you see? Where are these people? Have they met before? ETC
Ask students to look at the pictures again. Point to the names. Ask: Which person do you think is Ben? Who could be Sally? Etc Discuss in pairs. Tell students we’re going to listen and check their predictions. Ask ICQs
Exercise 1a Ask students to listen and match the names to pictures A-D. Ask ICQs. Play the audio once. -Complete the activity individually, then pair check, then whole class feedback. Exercise 1B Tell students to read the sentence with gaps. Then ask: What kind of word is missing? A name, a greeting, a number? Tell the students “We’re going to listen again and complete the gaps” then Ask ICQs. Play the audio, pair check, then whole class feedback.
Ask students what greetings did you hear? Elicit from them and write them down on the board. -Check the meaning by asking CCQs -Drill chorally, in groups, then individually. Controlled practice: Complete the dialogue/Match the greetings with the responses (Designed by the teacher)
Ask students to stand up and introduce themselves to three different classmates. Ask them to use at least 3 greetings/expressions from the board. Ask ICQs. -Monitor and provide help if needed. -Provide delayed error correction.
