Description

This lesson is designed to help students comprehend and use vocabulary words in order to understand their context in a unit. Before starting a new unit, students should obtain a list of vocabulary words and be able to demonstrate their understanding of each meaning. These vocabulary strategies enable the student to read more fluently, understand the author's word choice, and gain deeper insight into the meaning of a text.

Main Aims

  • Students will learn new vocabulary, use them correctly in a sentence, and understand their meaning in text.

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. Introducing and practising new vocabulary. 2. Revising previously taught vocabulary.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

presenting the new words by preparing a colourful piece of paper to make 26 letters of the alphabet...collecting some of these letters to create words that they were studying when they encounter them in reading .. Students are asked to think of other words that come to mind when they read the key word...

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

divide the class into three or four groups..Give each student or pair of students a dictionary. Ask them to use dictionaries to look up the meanings of words ...

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

giving them more details about these words,giving a verbal description (synonym).

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To review lexis related to friendships.

Ask them to do the task Ex 2 pg 8 ..then work in pairs to check .. Ss read the information more carefully to answer the questions

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

try to give students as much information as possible about each word..

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask them to work together in pairs to find answers to the question using the words they have been learned Ex.3 ,pg.8

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Have students try to use all the new words in one, long, complex sentence. Have groups of students write stories that incorporate all the words.
