Main Aims

  • To practice functional language in the context of routines and ordering food in a café.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review Wh questions and listening for specific information. To review telling the time and adverbs of frequency.

Procedure

Warmer (8-10 minutes) • To get the students speaking right away and generate interest in the subject

What do you eat for breakfast? How often do you eat breakfast? Write questions/answers on the board. ICQ: Are you writing? Do you need your pen's? OP's When do you have breakfast? When do you have lunch? Write questions/answers on board OP's PW with questions and adverbs of frequency. When I don't eat at home, what's the name of the place I have lunch? Elicit café or restaurant. i.e. McDonald's

Exposure 1 (12-14 minutes) • To review and practice Wh questions further

Write on the board: What, When, Catching Fire Movie, Where, How much, $10, 7 pm (o'clock), Regal Cinemas, Who, Jennifer Lawrence. Have ss match individually then as partners. Demo: Sample dialogue, OP, PW FB: How often do you watch movies?

Exposure 2 (15-18 minutes) • To focus ss on cafe dialogue and role play the conversation.

Have students put menu items under proper meal. Hand out answer sheet. Have students put dialogue in order in pairs. Get up and check around the room. Role play: Demo dialogue. OP, GW. W: What would you like? P: I'd like.... (W: Possible follow up: Would you like anything else? W: What would you like to drink? P: I'd like ...... W: Here you are. Pick new waiters, Work in pairs.
