Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the adjectives in the context of visuals. Firstly, teacher will stick some flashcard round the class and let students find the correct adjectives. Then the teacher will show some photos of the cities in Turkey to find more adjectives about the cities. After eliciting very, the students will put the sentences into correct order. Finally the students will talk about the pictures that teacher will hand them using the adjectives they learnt.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will revise the numbers by giving a matching handout to the students. They will have two minutes to complete and then teacher nominates the students to say the number loudly and feedback if there is wrong pronunciation.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through flashcards

Teacher writes the topic of the day which is adjectives on WB. T gives some examples abut opposite adjectives such as big/small. T wants the students to find the opposite adjectives from the flashcards which T'll stick on the wall. She gives an example by showing opposite adjective and say "Do the same". Students stand up and find the opposite adjectives. T will monitor them in case they do not know the adjectives. T drills the vocabulary and students repeat.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of adjectives

T sticks some photos of the cities in Turkey. She writes an example under the photo of Istanbul. "Istanbul is big". Then she writes İstanbul is a big city." She shows the adjective in the sentence and then shows the noun in the sentence. T passes the other photos and writes only the adjective. For example, she shows the photo of Nevsehir and writes ... .. beautiful. (students complete the gaps). Then she writes: Nevsehir ... ... ... city. Teacher teaches some adjectives with nouns. "beautiful woman, big house.." She lets students find other examples. Clarify meaning with the photos about the adjectives. And Feedback to see if everybody understands the task.

Freer Practice (4-8 minutes) • To enable students practice the adjectives and noun

T sticks some adjectives and nouns on the wall and says the students find adjective and noun. T models it. Gives an example. She finds big and house and say : A big house. All the students stand up and find one adjective and correct noun with that adjective. Teacher writes the collocation on the WB. Check students and help students if they cannot find it.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language

T shows the quantifier "very" by adding to the Istanbul is a big city. Then t writes on the board 30 Celsius degree and 40 and then shows the difference. (30 is hot 40 is very hot). She draws a Cline to show the meaning.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the target language

Teacher gives students an envelope with scrambled words in it and then let the students put these words into correct sentences. Students work in groups.T models it. Gives an example by doing one of them. Check students understanding. FB

Freer Activity (5-10 minutes) • To enable students practice as much as possible

T gives students a card which has photo and adjectives about the photo. Teacher says: Circle suitable adjectives and makes sentences about the photo. Teacher gives an example. This is a queen. She is beautiful. She is a very beautiful woman. Students gets the card and teacher and let students talk about the photo they see. Check students and write the good sentences on the board and immediate correction for the wrong sentence.
