Giving lesson , vocabulary and speaking
upper intermediate level
To provide clarification and practice of collocation with give in the context of I don't give a damn , i give my friends a call.......etc
To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversations ans discussion in the context of Did you know ?
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
I will start my lesson with writing on the board the word ‘give’. Then I will give my students example of the phrase with word Give and write it on the board. After that, I will ask the students for examples.
I will tell the students they are going to do an exercise. Then, I will show them how to answer the worksheet (the work sheet is from the straightforward workbook,10B, Giving, page 59, ex 5) and tell them not to worry about the vocabulary because I will explain it later. After that, I will ICQ. Then, I will pass the sheets to my students and give them some time to answer it after they finish the exercise. After that, I will ask the students to do a peer check. While they are checking, the answers will be written on the board.
If the students don’t understand some vocabulary I will explain the meaning to the students on the W\B and check their pronunciation. Then, I will give my students a copy of a tapescript from the students’ book page 161 to find and underline examples of the word give and objects of the verb, but I will ICQ before I pass the script to the students. Then, the students will check their answer from the white board. After that, I will ask the students to give me some examples. To check their understanding, I will CCQ. The students will be given a sheet including exercise.
The students will be given a sheet including exercise 2 from page 99 students’ book. In this this exercise, they will choose the best way to complete the sentences. Then, I will divide the class in to small groups and let them discuss the answers. Meanwhile, I will be monitoring them and write notes if I hear some errors, so later I can discuss it with the whole class to provide controlled written practice, focusing on using the language accurately and to test what the students have learnt from the teach stage.
I will tell the students that they will read information and discuss the questions from exercise 1 ‘Did you know’ page 99 in pairs, I will monitor them while they are reading and discussing to test if they have learnt from the teach stage.
