Main Aims

To provide fluency speaking practice in a describe danger and express purpose to avoid dangerous situations in the context of emergency and safety

Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for of exponents to describe dangerous situations in the context of emergency and safety

Procedure (32-45 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

tell Ss to write about what danger can be found in each of the pictures. Ss stand and go write down their ideas below each of the pictures. Elicit answer in open class

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Tell Ss to describe the danger of one of the situations and a possible action plan for that situation

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Provide the MFP of the vocabulary about danger and safety and the purpose clauses to propose actions for a dangerous situation

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss performa roleplay activity where one calls 911 to describe a danger while the other one is the operator who provides action plans using purpose clauses. Show students the cards and explain the different situations and obstacles they have to face.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write sentences Ss produced during the productive task and ask them to identify the mistakes. Elicit answers in open class Ask ss what they may feel if they were in one of those situations. Is 911 really that fast to help?
