Main Aims

  • To reinforce students' independent control of Week 9 grammar structures.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To distinguish Past Continuous vs Past Simple.
  • To improve control of gerund/infinitive patterns.
  • To reinforce idiom meaning and usage.
  • To increase confidence before assessment.

Procedure

Activation (25-30 minutes) • Let the students wake up and start the day with more energy and enthusiasm.

Start the day with a quick dynamic. Work in pairs. Both will say a word at the same time. Then, they'll need to find a coincidence between both words, for example: "Sun" - "water" "beach!" - beach!"

Review (48-50 minutes) • To reactivate Week 8 grammar structures.

The teacher asks students to recall which grammar topics they reviewed during the previous week. As students mention each topic, the teacher writes it on the board. The teacher then guides the group topic by topic, asking students how each structure is used, how it is formed, and when it is appropriate. Students answer collaboratively and provide examples. The teacher clarifies doubts, reformulates inaccurate explanations, and adds extra examples when needed. The review should include past continuous, idioms, gerunds and infinitives, and connectors of result, contrast, reason, and addition. The teacher encourages students to build examples together and compare correct and incorrect forms when useful.

Weekly Test (38-40 minutes) • Assess individual progress and comprehension.

Part A - Past Continuous vs Past Simple Mixed narrative completion. Part B - Gerund vs Infinitive Verb pattern selection + stop contrast. Part C - Idioms Choose correct idiom for context. Part D - Short Narrative Paragraph
