Description

In this lesson, Students will have a better understanding about films and the types of films (genre) they will practice speaking and asking questions to one another.

Main Aims

  • To provide review, practice and clarification of films in the context of movie genres

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation and discussing in the context of film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will provide the students three questions related to film and ask them to answer the questions in pairs. It will take 3-5 minutes. After that, the teacher will ask some random students to talk about their partner's answers. It will take 2-3 minutes. The teacher will have a few pictures on the wall so they can have an idea of what the questions are based on. The teacher will explain the activity before passing it out.

Test #1 (8-15 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The teacher will first give instructions on the next activity they will do.Then the teacher will hand out a sheet of paper asking them to fill out which genre they are most familiar and go down the list to the least familiar genre. After 3-5 minutes the teacher will stop the students. He will have four groups of 8-9 and form two lines with group 1 and 2 facing each other. Also have 3 and 4 face each other. The teacher will have them work in pairs and talk about their answers and see if any of the answers are the same. The teacher wants to have the students to interact and correct one another or help each other understand the terms. This process will then alternate and with new partners they will repeat the process. The teacher wants to have the students to help one another with the terminology.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

The teacher will post some pictures on the white board of each category and will give the students small pieces of paper with the answers.The teacher will divide the class into six groups and ask students to provide the correct word with the matching picture. They will be given 2-5 minutes. After the students finish working in groups, the teacher will provide each group with two answers and have two students from each group come to the white board and find the correct picture to the words which is provided by the teacher. (it will take 5-7 minutes) After clarifying the meaning, the teacher will give the students some drilling activities to make sure all of the students know thr pronunciation, stress and everything. Teacher will start drilling as a whole class activity and then ask each group to repeat that. the teacher will help the students with any possible problems.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

The teacher will ask the students to try to write an example of each of each category in their groups. It will take 3-5 minutes. Then the teacher will ask the students to share their ideas with one another. (controlled practice)

Free practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

First of all, the teacher will give the students a four questions to match them with their definitions. The students will first finish the handout individually then they will check their answers in pairs. After that, the teacher will ask the students to talk about those four questions in pairs. It will take 3-5 minutes. the teacher will ask the students to change their partners and do the activity again. The teacher will walk around too see if the students have an understanding on how to ask questions
