Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in listening for specific information in the context of an interview about the way to contact with friends.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help the ss to fill the gaps with the correct word from the box.


Lead-in (5 minutes) • To introduce the context of the lesson

Ask the Ss how they contact with their friends. Focus the Ss attention on the pictures. Ask them to say some information about them, Divide Ss into pairs. Explain the activity and rules.

Pre-Listening (5 minutes) • To introduce more about the topic of the lesson.

Focus the Ss attention on the words in the box by giving them cards of the words and making sure everyone understands them. Ask them to try to fill the gaps then work in pairs to compare their answers without confirming or denying anything. Get FB information from Ss.

While-Listening #1 (7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Ask Ss to work together in pairs to fill the gaps. check answers with the whole class. Get FB from the students. Explain any new vocabulary.

While-Listening #2 (3 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Drill the new vocab and focus on pronunciation and stress.

Post-Listening (5 minutes) • To provide Ss with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask the Ss work in pairs to check their answers. Get some FB from the students. Explain new vocab related to cultural notes.

Guessing game ( if time activity) (5 minutes) • To discuss more about how to contact with friends.

Put the students into teams, make each team write 5 sentences about how they contact with their friends. Each team present their sentences. IF there is time, make a free discussion asking them whether they have pen-friends and if they ever met them.
