Lesson: What's the the time. Functional language lesson with a sub-aim of speaking. Check the learners recognize and pronounce numbers and use time in the correct context.

Main Aims

  • Functional language. Get learners to pronounce the time and recognize numbers.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking. Get sts to correctly pronounce mumbers and time.

Procedure

Lead in (5 minutes) • How many hours sleep do we need?

T. Will will show slides and ask sts to guess what the correct amount of sleep is? If necessary provide prompt by placing a list of sleep hours so they can guess the appropriate amount.

Listening to numbers audit 1.50 (5 minutes) • Preparing to speak 1a: Play an audio and have sts recite the numbers they hear.

T. Play audio 1.50 and have sts say the number they heard. Then have them write the number they hear on the board - write the number in alphabet next to it eg. 10 - ten 20 - twenty. Practice saying the numbers with the sts. Partıcular focus on pronunciation. CCQ Wipe the board clean. Write the numbers in random order and have sts try to guess them and say them out loud.

Learning numbers pronunciation (5 minutes) • Preparing to speak 1b: Look at certain numbers and ask sts to pronounce them

T. write on the WB 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 Have Sts. pronounce them. Especially the difference between 15 and fifty. CCQ Wipe the board clean. Write the numbers in random order and have sts try to guess them and say them out loud.

Look at the pictures tell the time 2a. (5 minutes) • Focus on clock times, and pronunciation of o'clock.

T. Show handout pictures 2a A B C. PW. Ask students to tell the time to each other. Monitor. Whole class: Ask Sts to say the time in the pictures. Pronounce the times. Emphasize 'o'clock'. Whole class practice.

Say the times (5 minutes) • clock times pronunciation 2b.

T. Point to handout 2b. PW. Ask students to tell the time to each other. Monitor. Whole class: Ask Sts to say the time in the pictures. Pronounce the times. Emphasize 'o'clock'. Whole class practice. CCQ T. Draw clock on the board. Sts take a Time Handout and stick it on the board. Pronounce the time.

Look at the people, are they 3a. (5 minutes) • Show pictures

T. Show pictures in lesson 3. Ask the sts. What can you see? Where are they. Beak into groups of 3 or 4. Have them discuss in groups. Have each group say out loud what they see in the picture.

Listen to the conversations. Whats the time? 3b. (5 minutes) • Listening

T. Play recording. 1.51 in lesson 3b. Pause after each conversation asking: 'What's the time.' Check answer. Whole group repeat until acceptable.

Write the words in the box, play recording. 1.51 lesson 1c. (5 minutes) • Establish which words learners heard.

T. Write the following words on the WB. excuse me thanks about nearly late. Instructions. Listen to the recording, and when you hear a word stop me. Play recording 1.51. When the students hear a word they identify, have the whole group repeat the word. Explain and Practice pronunciation of 'ABOUT' explain and Practice pronunciation of 'NEARLY' Give examples to show the meaning of 'LATE'. Show and give examples of how to use 'EXCUSE ME' in a conversation. PW. Practice the conversations.

Practice asking time lesson page 117. example (5 minutes) • Practice asking time

T Separate into groups. Complete the conversations. in page 117. Lesson 1a, 1b 1c. Students work in groups. Monitor. If there is time over, have the students PW: 'Excuse me....do you have the time......' 'Yes, it is 7.00 o'clock'....thanks.
