Description

In this lesson, Sts will be introduced to different job interview questions. They will practice questioning and answering possible questions that are usually asked or answered during job interviews.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in conversations, discussions in the context of job interview

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of present and past simple/continuous in the context of job-interview

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Sts will be shown a photo of a person during a job interview and answers from WC will be elicited on what is happening. 2. Several Questions will be projected on WB, and Sts will discuss it in PW, When was your last job interview? What happened? What do people usually talk about job interviews? etc

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through discussion

PREPARATION TO SPEAK : 1. A checklist of appropriate and inappropriate questions and answers (individually) will be prepared and Sts will be asked to discuss them in PW. They should explain the REASONS. (5 min). 2. Some examples will be elicited from the class (1 min).

Useful Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

While eliciting answers from the previous activity where Sts answered the appropriate/inappropriate statements, in examples T will write some sentences on WB or project on WB, and quickly review the present and past simple/continuous.

Productive Task(s) (25-27 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

PREPARING TO SPEAK (10 min): 1. Sts will be divided into As and Bs. 2. As will be on one side of the room, and Bs on the other side. 3. Within each group, smaller groups of 3-4 ppl will be named BOSSes, and the other smaller groups within B as job seekers. 4. Approximately, there will be 6 BOSS groups. Each group will be given a certain job or company profile, such as travel agency, clothing store, private school, supermarket, beauty salon, construction company. They will choose these profiles from a bag where the profiles are written on pieces of folded papers. 5. Boss Grs will create names for their agency/company to create real life environment in the class. 6. Boss group will be asked to think of questions that they might ask during the job interview, including their answers. 7. Job-seeker groups will be asked to think of their possible questions and questions that each Boss group might ask. 8. Before starting the activity, T will demonstrate a demo conversation. SPEAKING TASK (15 min) 1. Sts will be put in pairs, like one from A (Boss), and one from B. They will sit face to face like in a real interview. Once 1 St from group B finishes his/her interview with 1 St from Group A company X, he /she will jump into other company. This will rotate. 2. Sts will sit back in their groups and discuss what they found out.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

1. During discussions, T will monitor the Sts and write any mistakes they make in Pron or Gram, or Vocab on WB and wrap up the lesson.
