Main Aims

  • to practice informal invitations and reponses orally with the students

Subsidiary Aims

  • to understand the meaning of the phrases from contextual clues while doing the listening task

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will ask the students to tell me in case they want to invite someone to a (movie , dinner , party) what kind of expressions do they use and if they use them with the same people i mean their (close friends , family ) or their ( boss , colleges).

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

i will fold the hand out , and i will ask the sts to take a look at picture and ask them some questions ( to describe me the picture , to tell me what does the girl on the picture do ) after that i will give them instructions to listen to the conversations while following on the hand out and i will ask them to answer the questions and check the answers in pairs.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

after they finish the first exercise , i will ask them to read again individually i'll give them (3 min) and go throught the second exercise after that we are going to listen again to the recording and ask them to check their answers in pairs and i will read the useful phrases and i will ask them to repeat after me .

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

in this stage i will ask the students to write a converstation with their partners based on the situation given in the exercise by using the useful phrases we have seen (5 min) , the first student will make suggestions and the second one will make execuses .

Post-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

in this part i will ask some of the students to practice their converstions in pairs loudly , while i'll be writing on the white board some expressions (inviting someone , accepting an invitation ,refusing an invitation , and disappointment ) after that i will do a little concept checking to see if the students got all the phrases we used or there still a little confusion .
