Description

In this lesson, students will learn about simple past both for regular and irregular verbs and practice the pronunciation.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of simple past in the context of fast food restaurant

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice pronunciation of past simple regular verbs, focusing in the /id/ /t/ and /d/ sound

Procedure

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

First of all, I will review the text to see whether they remember it or not. After that I will ask them to find the verbs which are in past form and underline them. Then I will ask them to check their answers in pairs and after that I will ask some random students to help me with the answers.

Clarification (15-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- Try to clarify meaning by using examples and gesture first of all I will write 4 sentences on the board. The sentences are taken from the reading. then by using gesture and timeline I show them the meaning. - Try to clarify pronunciation by giving them some drill activity/ I draw a table with 3 column for the three sounds. (/d/ /t/ /id/) then I will write an example for each and I want the students to do find the verb with the same sounds from the reading and write them down. - Try to clarify the form by using some examples and underling them I will write the form of the sentences. first affirmative then negative.

Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them a piece of writing that there are some gaps needs to be filled. I ask them to complete the text by the correct form of the verbs which are in parenthesis. Then I will ask them check their answers in pairs and after that I will ask some random students to help me with the answers. After that I will ask them to make three questions for the reading. Then I will give them some time to check their answers in pairs and again I will ask some random students to help me with the answers.
