Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of First conditionals and might in the context of weather and planing for possible future.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about two people's conversation about the weekend planing in the context of plans for future.
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation about future possible plans in the context of differnt weather conditions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students using pictures and asking questions

T will show the Ss some drawings about diffrent weather conditions and ask them what kind of things they can do in those weathers. T will try to elicit the concept of planning and future possibilities.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text about possible plans for weekend

T will show the Ss HO1 and ask the Ss to read the conversation where two people are talking about their plans for the weekend.Then they will listen to the same conversation from an audio tape and and try to guess what is the difference between "We'll go for a picnic and we might go to the park.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will ask Ss to discuss their guesses from previous activity about difference between we'll go for a picnic VS we might go to the park.Teacher will ask them to talk for 2 minutes and will get a quick feed back to make sure they have some ideas in their mind.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will describe the activity where Ss will have to fill in some gaps, do some matching and answer some questions about meaning and form of TL,handover the sheets and ask them to go through them in pairs. T will monitor Ss while they are doing the activity to help them through the stages and answer probable questions. Then T will elicit the meaning and form of the model sentences on WB and then work out through pronunciation back chaining and drilling the model sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will receive a handout where they will Underline the correct form of TL. Also they will choose whether to use might or will depending on the situation.They will do the activity with partners and then T will nominate Ss to come to the WB and write the correct answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will receive HO3 which on the top, There is an activity with some suggesting words about weather conditions and places to go. T will regroup the Ss and ask them to make a similar conversation with the one in the beginning of the lesson using the suggested words in pairs.Meanwhile he will monitor the Ss to check their understanding and do some on the spot correction. Also he will write down some common errors between the Ss to have a delayed error correction at the end of the activity.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will unfold HO3 and T will explain the last activity where they will try to use the target language talking about their own plans in the weekend. They will do this in group while teacher is monitoring to help them build up their ideas and do some hot correction. T will write take notes of wage areas and common mistakes to do the delayed error correction at at the end of activity.
