Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a discriptive paragraph in the context of vacation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of holiday words in the context of travel, cities and countries.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Get the context from Murat's lesson and narrow it down to holidays and holiday towns in Turkey or in the world asking about their own holiday experiences

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Give them the instructions and the handout for the gap-fill exercise to focus on adjectives - Peer-check the answers

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Give the definitions or clarifications of the adjectives in the handout - Do the language clarification, focus on meaning, form and pronunciation - Get them to work in pairs to find out at least one word that is similar or maybe opposite in meaning to the words in the handout and write those words down as a back-up

Productive Task(s) (15-17 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Give them time to prepare a written description of a holiday they went on and they never forget - Tell them not to forget using descriptive adjectives

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- Get them to exchange their paragraphs to correct the use of adjectives if there are any - Assist them with the error correction if necessary
