Description

In this lesson, Ss will listen to an audio file about Tilly Parkins and will do gist and specific information listening to get familiar with the TL.Next, T will use some slides to clarify the TL i.e Usage of have to/ has to in obligatory situations. Ss will practice the TL in a controlled gap fill activity and finally will have a freer practice to get the chance of using the input and practice it while they build their own ideas.

Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about clinging on rocks in the context of life story of Tilly parkins

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students using pictures of ahletes

T will show pictures of athletes clining the rocks and ask Ss what they think about the picture. Ss will get intrested about the clinging sport , our main character of the lesson " Tilly parkins" will be introduced in one the pictures, also T will try to use some sentences including TL.

Exposure, Listening for gist (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through listening to an audio file

Teacher will show the hand out where Ss will find out the answers to five questions and describe the activity.T will then give the handouts to Ss and ask them to read the questions and make sure they all understand the questions. Ss will listen to an interview about Tilly Parkinson and write their answers, T will replay the file if needed.needed. Ss will check their answers in groups. And finally T Will get a whole class feed back by nominating some Ss. Instructions:Listen to the interview, try to find answers to the questions. Listening for specific information (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to grammar i.e have to/ has to

Ss will listen to the audio once more, this time to fill in the gaps. T will show the handout and describe the example. T may emphsize the point that there is only one possible answer to make sure that Ss will focus on the TL. Instructions: Listen to the audio file and write the missing words in the gaps. Remember to write exactly what you hear. ICQ: Is there more than one possible answer? [No] Ss will discuss their answers in groups and complete their answers.Then an answer key will be given to them to find out the right answers.

Clarification of TL (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language i.e usage of have to/ has to

T will present slides using OHP to tell the life story of Sarah. There are pictures of Sarah's life routine and T will elicite target language asking Ss about the pictures. Each picture has a context that comes with a sentence and pronunciation will be practiced for each one of the forms presented.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will recive a handout which is a controled practice of the grammar where there are some missing words including positive, negative and question form. They have to choose the right form of TL from the words given in a box to fill in the gaps. Instructions: comlete the interview with a professional football player,Tony Mancini, using the lines in the box. ICQ: How many gaps do we have in the interview? [ Nine ] How many lines are there in the box? [Nine] So we can use each line only once. Ss will discuss their answers in a group and Ss from each group will come to the WB to write answers and others can check if they have the same answer.

Free Practice of TL. (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language through a guessing game

Ss will receive will a card which has a name of a sport on it.They will walk around the class and ask each-other questions to guess the name of the sport.once they find the answers to each other's card, they will swap the cards and try the same with new partners.Ss have a handout including some headings and some sample questions to help them start and build their own sentences. T will monitor while Ss are talking to have some hot corrections and take notes of similar errors for a delayed correction while final feedback.
