In the lead-in section, the teacher is going to show learners a couple of pictures related to the internet, and they are going to share their ideas and opinions. The students are also going to talk about the following questions: Could you live without the internet for 24 hours? How many hours are you online every day? What apps do you use most? They are expected to share their ideas and points of view regarding the topic mentioned.
In this stage, the students are going to read a short conversation between Juan and Nick. They are suggested to identify the vocabulary related to the internet as well as its activities. The following is the conversation: A. Hey, Juan, what are you doing right now? B. Hi Nick. I’m chatting online. What about you? A. Oh, really? I’ve just finished doing an online banking transfer. Hey! Do you think you can live without the internet? B. mmm. I don’t think so. I think it would be really difficult because I have to be online for my work, and I don’t have time to go shopping, so I shop online. A. You’re right. I also need the internet to use my social media and share photos with my family. B. It’s fantastic too. The bad thing about it is that I often struggle logging on because I always forget my password. The learners and the teacher are going to highlight the content about the internet. The teacher is going to ask pupils other reasons to use the internet in order to elicit more information from them.
In the "meaning stage," the teacher is going to share the vocabulary chosen about the internet, and the students are going to match the definition with the letter that each image has. The vocabulary chosen is the following: Go/be online. Do online banking Shop online Share photos Log on/out Use social media. Chat online The teacher is going to check learners' understanding and drill. In the "form stage," the teacher is going to ask learners to look at the online activities on the G-Forms slide and identify verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and phrasal verbs as follows: Go/be online. Do online banking Shop online Share photos Log on/out Use social media. Chat online The structure that Ss are going to match is the following. Verb + adverb Verb + adjective + noun Verb + noun Phrasal verb Once this activity is done, the teacher is going to ask CCQs to clarify any doubts. For example: In "share photos," what is the verb? → share What is the object? → photos In the "pronunciation stage," the teacher is going to ask the learners to practice their speaking and notice the words and syllables stressed as follows. Expression go onLINE do online BANKing shop onLINE share PHOtos log ON log OUT use social MEdia chat onLINE The teacher is going to drill and model the pronunciation; the learners are going to repeat and improve their pronunciation skills.
The speaking stage or discussion time will be made up of three sections as follows: Speaking 1. Which 2 activities previously mentioned are the most important for you and why? Speaking 2. Which could you live without? Why? Speaking 3. Which could you not live without? Why? The teacher is expected to listen carefully and encourage students to use the vocabulary presented in the class.
Once the speaking time finishes, the teacher is suggested to give open class feedback (OCFB), where the teacher is going to praise pupils for their engagement and participation in the class. Then the teacher is going to continue with DEC and share with the learners about some mistakes according to the target language that may emerge. Once this section is developed, the class will be done.
