To practice reading for details and speaking
To practice freer speaking in the context of risky unsupervised play by adults
Procedure (28-40 minutes)
I will show some pictures of kinds of risky play in the park. I will ask what is the boy/girl doing? Is he/she safe?is there anyone around supervising? No! What will happen if he fall down and gets a minor hurt? He will learn to help himself, next time he will be careful. I will elicit answers.
In pairs, T will give HO#1:2 packs of paper strips and ask Ss to match the vocabulary with the definition. T monitors. Whole class feed back. T provides CCQs. T drills vocab.
T gives HO#2 choose the main idea task. T asks ss to skim the passage and try to choose the suitable main idea. Ss compare their answers. T asks them to discuss the main idea in their groups.
T regroups Ss and give HO#3 True/False. T asks Ss to work in pairs and read the passage one more time in detail and try to find out the statements in the passage and decide whether they are true or false and then try to correct the false one/s. Ss peer check with new partner.
* T projects an image of an affectionate mother. She is panicked of her son's risky play. She is so frightened that he may get injured. * T encourages Ss to work in pairs and brainstorm ideas for advice to help her to calm down and be happy. * T expands groups and continues discussion. * W/C F/B
