Description

In this lesson, i will be getting the Ss interested in my lessons, discussing about family trees and history. Ss will be discussing whether they agree on a statement and answering questions. Ss will be listening to tapes, discussing their opinions and underlining main verbs, identifying the tenses.

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practise in listening for gist, specific information and detail in the context of genealogy.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To review and give Ss practise in present tenses - simple, perfect and continuous. Also speaking in pairs and with the whole class

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Draw tree with roots on the board - What is it? Roots also used when talking about roots of family, where you come from. Discuss what they know about their family trees and history in pairs FB

Listening 1 (8-10 minutes) • To practise reading,speaking and listening for gist

Ss read paragraph and discuss if they agree/disagree in pairs. FB Ex 2: Ask: How do you think you can find out about your family tree? GT Listen to track Answer questions in pairs FB Whole class

Listening 3 (15-20 minutes) • Group Discussion, Re-listen Track, Grammar matching

Pre teach words: Painful, Archives, Relating, Records Ex3: Think of two ways to research your family history with your partner. Pair work. Listen - check - FB Grammar Ex1: Look at example - Identify the tenses - S-Pairs- FB 1-2min Match uses of sentences Ex2 - Pairs

Present Tenses Ex4 (8-10 minutes) • Ss practice Present Tense

Ss match the missing words in the sentences. pair work FB

General Questions (13-15 minutes) • Practice speaking about their own experiences

Questions: Have you ever researched your family tree? Do you all live in the same country? Was you named after a member in your family? Do you know any stories about your family surname? FB
