Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of city & country life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of vocbulary related to different sights and sounds in the context of city life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will distribute handout # 1 T will ask ss to work in groups and paste related words and phrases under the picture. T will ask the groups to exchange the sheets and match if both groups have the same words/phrases for both lifestyles. T will display answers on IWB and briefly talk about city and country life. T will play few sounds and ask the ss to recognise them. T will ask ss to tick mark the sound that they hear in the audio. T will ask ss if they hear these sounds in a country or a city? T will show a picture of the place where she lives (Personalisation) T will talk about the different sounds that she hears in the morning, afternoon, evening and at night. Demo & personalisation) morning: birds (early morning only), road cleaner, children going to school, school buses, horns afternoon: children coming back from school, lots of cars and buses. evening: children playing outside and ladies chit chatting. night; Ther's a sports club and a marriage hall near by, so I hear loud music and fire works almost every other day. T will distribut HO#2 and will ask ss to write the sounds they can hear where they live. T will ask ss to compare their answers and talk about: Where they live.... The sounds they hear..... If they enjoy the sounds they hear or not....

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Preteach vocabulary words Display the words and their meanings on the board. Ask ss if they are familiar with these sounds. T will ask ss to listen to the poem and match the photos (A-D) with the verses (1-4) ICQs: Are you going to listen and match? (Yes) Are you going to write something? (No) T will ask ss to work in groups and talk about: What can the poet hear and see in each verse?

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will ask ss to match the word groups with correct explanation. T will ask ss to fill HO # 3, then 4 then 5. CCQs & ICQs to check instructions. T will ask ss to compare their ansers in pairs. T will provide answer key and WC FB

Productive Task(s)/speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T will ask ss to get together in pairs and talk about whether they like city life or country life. T closely monitors all ss while they are talking and notes down few good sentences and few bad (wrong) sentences.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T gives feedback on the board T writes down few sentences and asks ss to select which ones are good and which ones are bad examples. Teacher does the correction with WC (eliciting & drilling)
