In this Lesson we will focus on the reading skill,receptive skills, and speaking, productive skills

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed in the context of nuclear accident in Chernoblyl,Ukraine and the story of a girl called Palina from Chernobyl.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy and some language function practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will start the lesson by showing visuals about Chernobyl city and the nuclear accident to lead them into the context of the texts that they will read later. elicit some information from them about this accident since turkey also was affected by this disaster.

Pre-/Reading- and reading task 1 (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

i will show the Ss a picture of Palina, explain that she is a girl with two families. I will give them the HOs of the introduction and ask them to read it individually and find the answers for these three questions. then get the feed back from the class as a whole. - Where does Palina come from? - why didnot her future look good? - when was she born?

Reading task 2 (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will give the Ss Ho of the Text "Life in Village of Polessye" and let them read the text quickly. I will monitor and help with any inquiries. then give students time to do the True/ False and remind them to correct the false statements.then let the students check their answers in pairs.

Reading task 3 (12-15 minutes) • to read the text then answer the questions

I will ask the students if any of them spent a long time away from home and family when they were young? and how did they feel? let them read the text " Life in Ireland" I will be monitoring and help with any queries then let the students answer questions in Ex.4 and discuss their answers in pairs or groups of three before checking with the class

Post-Reading (5-6 minutes) • to provide students with some freer practice, speaking and productive activities

i will ask the the question:why Palina says she's so lucky? and we can had a discussion about this question. i may give the text " Palina today: I'm so lucky!" after we had the discussion if we had time we may read it and see why she is so lucky if not will be their homework to read.
