In this lesson, the students will learn present progressive for future arrangements.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of present progressive for future arrangements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of making future arrangements

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks the students what they are doing tomorrow, what their plans is. Students answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T displays Picture 1 on WB using a overhead projector, and tells them what he is doing tomorrow. T asks the students what they can notice about the sentences, i.e Is it today I am meeting? when will I meet these people?, Do I have an arrangement to meet them? After elliciting, T writes on the whiteboard when to use the present progressive for future arrangements, i.e. when( a pecific time referance ), who (person), where ( a reference to a location)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T writes the form on the whiteboard and highlights the key points.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives the students HO 1. The Ss works individually to match the questions with their answers. T tells the students to check their answers with the person sitting next to them. The students answers, and the teacher checks if they are correct. Teacher tells the students to identify the verbs in each answers. Teacher draws the students's attention on answers a and d, and asks them questios like " Have I called them?, Have I made the arrangement?" to ellicit the answers and use it for clarification.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives the students HO 2 The students work induvidually. After completing the task, T asks the students check their answers with the student sitting next to it. T gives the key to HO 2. During he answering key, T asks concept checking questions.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T gives HO 3 and asks the students to arrange meetings with their partners. The students write the arrangements on the diary. T monitors the students. T asks the students to tell about their arrangements they made.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T tells the students that they will create an event on a specific date and ask the other students what they are doing, if they are free, arrange a meeting.
