Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of future progressive and future perfect in the context of the near future

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of the near and the distant future
  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about eco guilty in the context of the near

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will write ''2036'' on the board and stick the visuals to the wall, pair the students ask them to come and see each picture and discuss whether it is already happening? is likely to happen? probably won't happen? And then I will elicit some ideas from the WC

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will give the students HO1 and ask them to read it to see if their guesses were similar to the ones in the text and which ones.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will tell the students to work with their partners to find the actions that will be finished and the actions that will be continuing in the text. Get some answers from the whole class.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will write a sentence from the text with future progressive, and a sentence from the text with future perfect, I will ask the students what is the difference? Highlight the difference between the two sentences or ask a student who told the difference to draw a timeline to clarify it visually, and elicit the form of the sentences and then drill pronunciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

pair the students and give them HO2 which is a fill in the gaps one and ask them work out the words and the tenses by looking at the text if they need any clues. For feedback, I will give them the answer keys and let them check their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Give the students HO3 in which it is written what time they will be dealing with (tomorrow, next year) and discuss it with their partners

Free Practice (8-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will group the students and ask them about their predictions for the near and the distant future, both personal predictions and universal ones.
