Description

In this lesson, Ss will get the opportunity to practice the vocabulary/grammar from the previous lessons more freely in writing. This lesson also continues with the same general context as the previous two lessons.

Materials

Abc HO1

Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of some essays in the context of fifty-word stories.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the position of adverbs and adverbial phrases in the context of fifty-word stories.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To get the Ss interested in the topic

The T asks if the short stories in last two lessons were interesting or not. If so, why? Then they will work in pairs and try to find out why the stories were interesting. The T will monitor first to make sure if they are doing the right activity. And to find out what are the best answers to share in class.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading.

T wants the Ss read the previous stories which they have from the last two lessons, and tell how it is possible to write a story in just 50 word. The instruction will be this. "Read the stories you already have, tell me how it is possible to right fifty-word stories." The monitoring will be for making sure they are on the right track and finding out the most efficient answers to be elicited.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will say " what was today's grammar? (adverbs and adverbial phrases) so read the stories again and find out how and when are the adverbs used." I will monitor and help them if they have any questions about the grammar and if I see the question is repeated I will check it with the WC.

Productive Task #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will be put in new pair (with numbering). I will ask them to look at the topics and choose one with their new partner. Once they do so, they will be given 5 min to brainstorm and think about what they want to write about. Instruction: "read the topics, choose one", "work with your partner, brainstorm about the topic" I will monitor to see if they are doing so.

Productive task #2 (10-12 minutes) • To give Ss practice in the target productive skill.

When they are done, I will ask them to write a fifty-word story about the topic they have chosen. There are two rules, #1 Use two adverbs, #2 The story must be exactly fifty words. The title is not included and short forms count as one word (e.g. I'd). Your friends will read your story and we will choose the most interesting one. So try to make it interesting. I will monitor to help Ss if they need. And if they are making boring stories, I will tell them to make it interesting.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The stories will be on the wall. Ss will go through the class and read them, then vote for the best and most interesting one (number of each pair will be on the board and everybody comes and vote for the one that they liked). Afterwards, they sit back and be given another pair's story. They will correct it with pencil. i will monitor specially during the correction part to make sure they do not correct the right sentences.
