To provide clarification of adverbs and adverbial phrases in the context of short stories and reading
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of story building using the TL
Procedure (40-46 minutes)
The T will write 6 adverbs on the board and then mime a story. The students will guess the adverbs one-by-one until they have all been used.
* Handout '50 word story'. Students read story and guess who the story is about. (a teacher)
* Students explain the difference between hard & hardly and near & nearly * Elicit some sentences from Ss (one for each term) to write on WB
* Adverbs and adverbial phrases handout (HO2) is distributed to Ss. Ss work in pairs to complete the 1st section 'Confusing Adverbs and Adverbial Phrases' Listen to audio file to check answers for FB Ss work in pairs to complete the 2nd section 'Comment Adverbs' Listen to audio file to check answers for FB HO3 is given to Ss. The audio file is played and students repeat the sentences copying the stress and intonation of the adverbs
*4-student groups are formed. A paper with two pictures, each with an adverb, are given to each student.Students describe their photos to each other and construct a story using the TL. Time allowing, students from different groups tell the story picture by picture.
