In this lesson, students will practice functional language that they can use to talk about birthdays and presents that can be bought for birthdays. Ss will be making suggestions to decide a good birthday present .

Main Aims

  • • Functional Language - To familiarize ss with language used for making suggestions in the context of buying a birthday gift

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking - To practice making suggestions for a birthday gift . Listening - To introduce the TL in the context of a birthday gift


Stage 1 (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in descussion

T will show pictures to the Ss and elicit the context Birthday.T will explain some important vocabulary will using the picture and practice drilling in the class.

Stage 2 (8-10 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the semi-controlled speaking and listening activity

T will give handouts to Ss.T will demonstrate her birthday and then asks Ss to fill the gaps and practice the given dialogue in pair. A: When’s your birthday? B: It’s in ___________ A: How old are you? B: I’m ______years old.

Stage 4 (10-15 minutes) • To practice listening activity

T will show a picture to Ss and will create a context for the next activity.T will give Ho to the Ss to listen the audio and fill the gaps.

Stage 5 (10-15 minutes) • To practice free speaking and listening activity

T will make groups four groups . T will ask Ss to discuss to arrange a birthday party for one their class fellows. Ss will use the previously taught vocabulary . One group will share their plan with the other group.
