Main Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about inventions in the context of showing that women were responsible for the several significant inventions of the last century

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the context for the introduction of the present and past forms of passive and pornunciation of 'ed' ending

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

take students attention "OK guys, look at the board ." write this challenging sentence on the board to draw student attention and engage them (the most useful invention of the last century...) ask them: "what is your opinion about it?what do you think is the most useful invention of last century?" "you have 3 minutes share your opinions in pairs" asking CCQs: should you do it in class? no,in pairs what should you talking about? the most useful invention in last century after 3 minutes one by one ask them to share their ideas with class and write them on the board (using some words like yes, very goo, that's right) vote for the best example "who says (this invention)?

Pre-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

give them 8 pictures that shows different inventions and ask them to guess which 5 of them were invented by women show one of pictures and say "look at these pictures,what are these?(student say some thing) show each picture and if they don't know write new words on the board. now I give you these pictures, look at these inventions and with your partner guess which 5 were made by women?" ask CCQs ;1. should you talk about all of them? 2.should you talk about those that made by man? you have 3 minutes to talk about them

While-Listening #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

focus on the task give them papers that includes questions about the topic and play the record for student to complete the gaps name the inventions. "they're two task on the papers just look at part one,read the question, we need to write name of inventions. give them the papers.(after 10sec) "OK now we are gonna listen to it . listen and write name of inventions" CCQs:should you do it in pairs? what should you write? (listening time 3 minutes) check students answers. find out if students had guessed correctly.

While-Listening #2 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

focus on the questions, play the recording again for students to listen more detail. pause the recording after each invention to give students time to write their answers. "read the question carefully. you have to listen to the recording and answer it again with detail and then compare it with your partner." CCQs:should you do it n pairs at first? should you just write a name? (5 minutes) check the answer with class. ask students to read their answer randomly

Post-Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

make a discussion for students to talk about these inventions. "which of the five inventions do you think was the best?"
