Students will learn about countable and uncountable nouns and new vocabulary

Materials

Abc PowerPoint slides
Abc Board markers
Abc Restaurant menu handout

Main Aims

  • 1. Identify countable and uncountable nouns. 2.Use food vocabulary correctly. 3. Order food politely in a restaurant role play

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. Improve listening for gist. 2. Practise speaking fluently. 3.Interact confidently in pairs.

Procedure

Lead-in (5 minutes) • Engage students

Show robot waiter picture. Ask: “What can you see?” “Would you like a robot waiter?” “Why?”

Pre-teach Vocabulary (5 minutes) • Clarify food vocabulary

Show food pictures: soup, bread, grapes, milk, pasta, pizza, chips. Drill pronunciation chorally and individually.

Listening Task (5 minutes) • Listening for gist

Students listen and choose True/False. Students compare answers in pairs before whole-class feedback.

Grammar Discovery (8 minutes) • Discover countable/uncountable nouns

Draw two columns on board. Students classify words. Use CCQs. Elicit rules instead of explaining directly.

Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • Accuracy practice

Students complete quick sorting activity or hold up cards under countable/uncountable headings.

Speaking Role Play (10 minutes) • Fluency and functional languag

One student = robot waiter. One student = customer. Use menu to order food politely. Example: “Can I have some soup?” “I’d like two pizzas.”

Feedback & Error Correction (5 minutes) • Improve accuracy

Praise good language first. Then correct common mistakes on board
