Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the prepositions of time in the context of daily routine activities and habits. To use the prepositions In, at, on and every. To speak for accuracy.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss fully controlled practice of preposition of time to enhance their speaking skill in the context of daily routine, days of the week, months of the year, and so forth.

Procedure

Lead-in . Teacher Bk pg: 159. (7-10 minutes) • To set the context and engage Ss.

First, I show The British Council logo on the projector, and then I ask some questions, such as Do you know this? when do you come here? Do you come here everyday? Do you come here at night? Do you come here on Friday? Second, I draw a star on the board and write on each edge a time phrase, and then ask Ss to try to relate (in one word) the given information to something special in my life such as( 9 A.M, morning, 2013, day, Friday) Third, I photocopy the paper from the T book and then cut it into small cards(they are two sets the prepositions set and the time phrases set). After that, I give each pair two sets of the cards and ask them to match the preposition with the proper word. Finally, I ask each two pairs to check their answers together. Suggested CCQs: - Do I come here in the evening? No Did I come to the U.A.E last year? No Do you see me when you come here? Yes

Stage 2. (7-10 minutes) • A- To Present the target language. WkBK Pg: 16 SSbk Pg: 27

-I prepare an activity from the wkbk. I ask Ss to guess what they should do. In pairs, they have to fill in the gaps. After they finish, they have to check answers with their partner. I start ask them when/how often do they usually do such activities. - I give them some papers contain phrases like ( date and day, part of the day, routine, clock, month, night, the week). I write on the board in columns in, on, at, every and then start to categorize some of their answers (activities) under each column. Finally, I ask them to stick time phrases under the suitable prep. - I prepare the same bubbles in the SB and write on preposition on the top of the bubble, and then I attach the bubbles on the wall. I prepare some colored papers of the words in the box(pg:27). I put Ss into four groups of 3-4 Ss. I give each group some copies and then I ask them to go around the class and match each copy the suitable preposition. I ask Ss to read chorally the answers on the wall. Suggested CCQs: Ask some Q about people in the activity: - Are the people in pic d working ? No Are they relaxing? Yes Are people in pic e fighting? No Are they having fun?

Stage 3. (7-10 minutes) • To prepare Ss to practice the controlled speaking activity. S/B Pg: 110

It is a W/C activity. I start distributing the copied papers. They have to choose the correct prep. When they finish, I tell them to discuss the answers with the student next to them. After that I ask them to do a mingling activity by asking them to go around the class and ask some one they are not sitting with one yes/no question. Then I tell them to find two people who answer yes for each question and write their names in the table. The final step is to tell the class about them. - T should demonstrate this first by wandering through the class asking Ss " Do you watch TV in the morning?" and when she finds two people who have positive answers, she writes on the board: Ex: X and Y watch TV in the morning. Suggested CCQs: Is morning a clock? No. Is it part of the day? Yes. Is Friday part of the day? No. Is it a day? Yes. Is going to the cinema something you do once in your life? No. Can you do it more than one time? Yes.

Stage: 4 WKBK. Pg 17 (7-10 minutes) • Freer Practice. Discussion on the target language

I distribute copies of the WKBK activity and then ask them to choose one suitable answer in groups of three. I ask Ss to discuss the reason behind their choices.
