Upper Intermediate level
To provide clarification, review and practice of reply and tag questions in the context of paranormal happenings.
To give Ss practice in speaking for fluency.
Procedure (40-47 minutes)
Model sentences will be written on the WB before class and real world (i.e. student and teacher facts or fictions) will be used to set context.
The Ss will complete a gap fill exercise followed by a brief listening to check their answers (exercises 3 a-b (listening only)).
In pairs (PW), Ss will decide the different functions of auxiliary verbs and then listen to a brief dialogue to understand stressed and unstressed auxiliary verbs. T will then reinforce the main points of stress and intonation (exercises 3 b, 4 a-b). The T will ask 3-4 CCQ's to check Ss understanding.
Ss complete sentences relating to their own lives. In pairs (PW), one S will read their sentences and the other S will respond with a reply question and say whether they are the same or different. Ss will then switch roles (exercises 4 c-d). T will monitor the Ss during this exercise. Ss will also listen to a short dialogue and repeat in pairs (exercises 4 e-f).
Ss will complete sentences about themselves in two different groups and then pair up to practice the TL. This is a game as the Ss will pretend they are Psychics (exercise 4 g).
Ss will change pairing and ask questions and respond in turn using the TL.
