Description

In this lesson, students learn how to hold a conversation through guided discovery based on listening and speaking.

Materials

  • To provide gist and specific information listening and speaking practice in the context of holding a conversation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show pictures of a student and a teacher having a conversation in the school and ask the students to describe their body languages.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through listening

Listening task. Give the students a gist listening task about what and how they are talking.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T helps the learners notice the TL and it is purpose

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives handouts to learners to match the statements and responses. CCQ some of the responses. Helps them notice with the pronunciation(intonation/stress) through listening

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T sets a listening exercise and helps the learners remember the responses. Focus on the form and pronunciation

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives HO to the students. Give them a chance to use TL freely through role plays. Set another listening task to evaluate the student's use of TL. Repeat the role plays with different partners if needed.
