Description

In this lesson, Ss will do some listening activity which is about two people. They will first lead to guess the whole listening they are going to listen to and of course discuss it with partners or in group. then the whole listening process will be started and finally they will learn some new idioms and expressions existed in the text.

Materials

Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about remarkable people with extraordinary characteristics

Subsidiary Aims

To provide clarification of job lexis and an idiom in the context of music and business

Procedure (42-44 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show them the papers they are going to get Ask them some basic question about the people they see in the pictures Distribute the papers among the Ss Start with the Starter part and ask them to answer the question then ask them to work in groups and share their ideas

Pre-Listening (8-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Get the Ss' attention to the ex. 1 and ask them to talk about the two people they see on the paper Ask them to answer the questions on ex. 1 with their group Introduce them some of the words that is assumed to be difficult for the Ss eg. ordinary, enthusiasm, currently, extraordinary, flavors and charity.

While-Listening #1 (8-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information in the listening task

tell the Ss that they're going to listen to the listening part once and check their prediction (answer to ex. 1) ask the Ss to discuss their answer with their group and then choose one person from each group to tell his/her idea. They might have problem with the words DJ and jam so it's a good idea to tell them correct pronunciation. Clarify the function of single as noun here in the listening part.

While-Listening #2 (15-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening task

ask the Ss to focus on ex. 2 and 3 for the detailed listening. Play the 1st recording to let them discuss the information they collect. Ask them whatever they understood from the 1st recording Play the 2nd recording to let them discuss the information they collect. and once again ask them the things they found out from the 2nd recording. Ask them to answer the question on ex. 2 and 3 with their groups. choose one person from each group to answer each question

Post-Listening (8-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Make the Ss focus on ex. 7 Ask them to answer the question on ex. 7 Then ask them if they know people who love what they do and what is their opinions about them.
