Description

In this lesson students will do some listening about strange job interviews. First they will guess some questions handed to them in HO1 and then they will listen to an audio about three peoples' interviews and check their answers. Finally they will interview each other in two separate groups by asking questions some of which they wrote themselves.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with practice in listening for specific information and detail in the context of strange job interviews

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice/consolidate work done on questions.To give Ss practice in speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

ask students if they have been in a job interview. Sit in pairs and ask them what they are most likely to be asked in a job interview.

Pre-Listening (8-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give students HO1 and ask them to guess the questions and exchange ideas

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

tell the students to focus on the answers in the audio, ask them to check their guesses in pairs

While-Listening #2 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Let the students listen to the audio again but ask them to find out what the speakers' answers are and what happened in the end.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

separate the class into two groups, give HO2 to one group and HO3 to the other, ask them read the questions and to write 2 or 3 questions and interview their partner, after the interview let the students tell if the other one got the job or not and why

Post-Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide the students with an opportunity to expand what they learned

tell the students to mingle and ask as interview as many students as they can. At the end ask who got the job and ask who got the most interesting question and why?
