Description

In this lesson students will learn other countries' names as well as famous landmarks the world over.

Materials

Main Aims

  • The Aim of the lesson is for students to learn about other countries and famous landmarks in those countries

Subsidiary Aims

  • Pronouncing names of countries and their landmarks correctly, understand the meanings of words country, city, landmark, tourist.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher enquirers from students which other countries they know and follows up with a question on what they know those countries for.

Exposure (13-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The teacher then leads the class in naming some of the well known countries in the world before explaining what some of those countries are famous for at the point at which the teacher explains the words landmark and tourist. All this is done with the help of a PPT

Useful Language (6-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The teacher then goes through the pictures of the landmarks asking the students if they recognize the landmarks. The students would then answer by saying "This landmark is found in ..."

Productive Task(s) (9-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher then tasks the students in groups of 4 to talk about the landmarks that are in China and why they think those landmarks are important.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Group work feedback by students to the class on what they discussed as well as corrections by the teacher and summation of the lesson.
