Description

In this lesson students will learn about collocations through reading. At the beginning of the lesson SS receptive skill developed by reading for the gist, understanding the main idea of the passage which is about gesture and body language. Then, students will be asked to provide specific information on the passage. Finally, they will have some control practice on collocations and comprehension of the passage.

Materials

Abc hand outs, project,marker, WB

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Body talk in the context of shaking hands,hugging

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of collocations in the context of shake hands,give a hug

Procedure

warmer/ lead in (3-4 minutes) • to activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic

T- shows some gesture in different cultures and asks SS t show some gestures in their culture. T- shows some body language and ask student to name them. SS will work in pairs t demonstrate some gestures to eachother

Reading for a gist (5-7 minutes) • To improve the skill of reading by making the task purpseful

T- gives the SS some papers and asks them to read the text and tell the main idea of the text. T- writes some questions on the board ans asks SS to answer the in groups. T- asks the whole class to check their answers.

reading for specific information • To practice reading for specific informatin

T- tells the SS that they are going to read the text again to answer the questions on their paper. SS- will read the text in pairs and answer the questions and share them in groups. T- ask SS that if they have any problem with new vocabularies they can ask from their partner. T- will drill the meaning of some words that WC has problem with them by writing on WB or using body language

Post reading • To improve Ss' skill in grammar about collocations

T- asks SS to underline the verb+noun that go together on the text T- elicit the using collocations in English T- asks SS to find examples of collocations n the text in pairs T- asks SS to give other examples of collocations in English

Freer activity • To provide an opportunity to personalize the topic

T- Forms SS into 3 groups T- Gives SS some hand outs with two questions on it T- asks SS to work in groups and answer the questions T- monitors Ss' answer in groups
