In this lesson, students will learn how to use collocations related to transport.

  • To introduce students collocations in the context of transport.

  • To enable students to practice productive skill speaking in the context of transport.


Warmer/Lead-in (7-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Warmer: Hi. How are you? My car was not working today. I took a taxi to come here. How did you come here? Bus, Taxi.. Today's topic is ..... T shows the realia and acts out. Elicit the word Transport. How do we call them? Transport /ˈtræn.spɔːt/ Lead/in : Teacher asks ss to match the pictures with the words in the box. Check with your pair. FB: Nominate students for each one. ICQ: What is A? ....................... Check the meaning of Motorbike and Helicopter and drill them. CCQ: Are Motorbikes dangerous? or Do you have a motorbike? Motorbike /ˈmoʊ.t̬ɚ.baɪk/ ICQ: Helicopter sound and ask What is this transport? Helicopter /ˈhel.əˌkɑːp.tɚ/ Instruction: HO1 -- Match the words in the box with the pictures. Are you going to write anything? T demonstrates and give the handouts. T monitors.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To introduce students to target vocabulary about transport

T gives the ss the word web hand out and ask them to cross out the type of transport which does not go with the verb. Asks them to add a correct type of transport to each word map. Instruction: There is one mistake in each web. Cross out the wrong one. Teacher demonstrates. Work in pairs. You have 3 minutes. FB: Get the answer asking following CCQs. CCQ: Do we take a bike? Do we get on a car? T asks Ss to complete the word web with the words in the box. Instruction: Add correct ones in each web. T elicits the similar and opposite word webs. (Get on, Get off - Go by, Take) Work in pairs. FB: T nominates Ss to give the answer key.

Productive exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target vocabulary

Instruction: Look at the pictures and use the following words to describe what is happening in each one. You can use more than one word. Get on –Take -- Get off – Ride – Get in – Get out – Get in FB: Teacher provides the answer key on the back of the work sheet. Form and Pronunciation: T shows the form and drill the collocations. Instruction: Do you get on a plane? Yes Do you get on a taxi? No Do you get off a train? Yes Do you get off a taxi? No Do you go by foot or on foot? on Foot Do you ride a plane? No T shows the forms and drill the pronunciation. T writes the answers. Subject Verb Object Ex. I get on a plane. /'get.ɒn/

Productive task (8-10 minutes)

Students ask each other following questions using the target collocations on the previous exercises. Instruction: Ask each other these questions and answer them. A) How do you usually get to work? B)What's your favourite type of transport? Why? C)Which types of transport don't you like using? Why not? T monitors.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Monitor and takes notes during the discussion activity. T uses the WB to show the mistakes. Either pronunciation or language use. FB. What is wrong with these sentences?
