Description

In this lesson, the students will discover the third conditional in the context of "Gas Staion Robbery". After being familiar with the first and the second conditional in the previous lessons, the students will learn a more challenging type of conditional (The Third Conditional)

Main Aims

  • to provide Ss with practice on the third conditionel within the context of robery.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practise speaking fluently using the third conditinal

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss pictures of people trying to rob each other. Ask them what do they think about the picture. Does it happen in their happen in their country. Teacher ask Ss to tell each other stories if they have ever witnessed a robery. feedbeck from few Ss.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To expose Ss to the target language through a text or situation

I'll give the students a handout of a passage about "Gas Station Robbery" that happened in 2005 in Washington.Then I'll ask them to answer four questions about it.They check their answers with their partners. After that, WC feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask Ss to tell what would have happened if the salesgirl didnt give them the money. teacher tries to elicit the marker sentence from Ss and write it on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-Teacher gives Ss a HO. -Ss work in pairs - answer CCQs about the meaning of the sentence in the third conditional. - Ss write the form of the marker snetence. - Once done they compare their answers with other pairs, then, WCFB on the WB. - Teacher nominates Ss to give answers. - Teacher writes the marker sentence on the WB and highlights the form and pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- Teacher passes out the HO3 and ask Ss work in pairs and check their answers in groups circle the correct answer. - Ss compare their answers in groups. - Teacher gives the AK to Ss.

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To prvide Ss with a semicontrolled speaking practice

-Teacher tasks Ss to talk about things that would/could or might have happened if things had happened differently. -Teacher gives an example for Ss and invites them to mingle in class and talk to each other. -Ss have to talk to more than one person. -teacher monitors and goes for a delayed error correction.
