Subsidiary Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by showing them some photos and ask them what they think the people in the photos are doing.

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Then they will read a conversation and will be asked to answer the one question about it.Then they will check the answer with their partners and then with the class.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Then will be asked to read the conversation again and check what strategies the people have used to keep the conversation going. Then they will check in pairs and then with the class.

Controlled Practice (5-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Then they will answer some questions on the strategies they have just learned. Then they will check in pairs and then with the class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

They will read incomplete conversations and fill in the blanks using strategies of their own. Then they will check with their partners and then with the class and check if their sentences are the same as their peers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

They will work in pairs and tel, their partners about a piece of news they have heard recently. Then they will tell the class about it.
