Description

In this lesson, STS will be introduce to 'might' and 'going to' for future arrangements and ways of saying they are not sure. The will also practice using the TL through various speaking activities. The lesson will follow on from the last with a T/F activity that contains the TL. The Students will when be introduced to the form through guided discovery. They will complete a controlled gap fill activity and a semi controlled writing practice. The session will end with a freer practice where they create an itinerary for a trip with their group.

Procedure

Lead-in/building context (5-7 minutes) • To generate in the topic and set the context

PW Ex 1 T- displays image on the WB - reminds STS of the previous sessions listening text Asks the students to answer from memory if the questions are T/F (questions were in previous audio and contain TL) Show answer key on WB Using audio text, ask students to find the correct answers to the false questions WC feedback Clarify that we'll be looking at other ways of saying we're not sure.

Presentation (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning and form of the target language

Individual Ex 2 - STS to read sentences and complete the correct words to the rule STS check answers in pairs Ask early finishers to circle correct form on WB T- to clarify form on WB and revisit the positive and negative form of be going to We use might to say something in the future is possible, but not decided We used be going to to say a future plan is decided

Presentation (4-5 minutes) • Clarify Pronunciation of TL

Ex 3 Display marker sentences on WB Clarify pronunciation and highlight/elicit that might is always stressed I might go for a drink with Peter. I might go to Jane’s party We might go to a club We might watch a video We might go out with some friends We might go to the cinema

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide controlled written practice focussed using the target language correctly

Individual - 4 mins T to demo gap fill activity on the WB - highlight that the sentences are about Tim and Debbie and demo the might and going to with correct form of the verb STS complete gap fill 1-6 Check answers in pairs STS add answers to the whiteboard Clarify MFP if needed

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Individual/ GW (3s) - 8 mins Demo example on the WB - ask STS which sentence is false and mark on WB STS write three things they might do and two things they are going to do this weekend. One sentence needs to be false. In groups, the STS each share their sentences and they need to guess which one is false. T- asks students which statements were false in each group

Production (15-15 minutes) • To provide students with written and oral freer practice of the target language

Groups A, B, C (3s or 4s) - re group STS first Ex 6 Show STS an image of London - asks STS the below and elicit a couple of answers and note on WB for ref: Where is this? What might tourists do there? Each table has an image of a holiday destination (Izmir,Istanbul, Fetiye and Antalya) 'plan a 3 day holiday/trip with your group' 'write a list of the places you are going to visit and might visit whilst you're there' All STS need to write the list individually Re-group STS Each students discusses their trip with the new group T- Asks each group to share one interesting thing that they will do on their trip.

Freer Practice (OPTIONAL) (5-7 minutes)

In groups, STS discuss what they are going or might go for Byram
