Description

In this lesson the SS will develop their reading skills by reading a text about April fool day. The SS will have gist task and other task that is related to reading.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The T shows a picture of April 1 and asks the SS "Is there something that all people do in this time?" The T tries to elicit "April fools" from the SS.

While-Reading 1 (Reading for prediction) (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

The T gives the SS a handout (HO-1) and tell the SS: "Look at pictures A-D. What do you think was the April Fool's Day joke for each picture?" Then, The T gives another handout (HO-2) and asks the SS to read the text and check their ideas.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The T gives the SS another handout (HO-3) and asks them to read the text again and answer the questions in the handout. Feedback type: WCFB. After finishing this activity the T will asks the SS: "Which story do you think is the funniest?"

Post-Reading 1 (8-10 minutes) • To work on vocabulary

The T regroup the SS and then, he gives the SS another handout (HO-4) and asks the SS to solve the activity in this handout. The T gives an example on the activity (DEMO) Feedback type: WC by asking each group about their answers.

Post-Reading 2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The T shows questions on the board by the projector (1- Which TV programmes or comedians make you laugh? 2- What's the funniest film you've ever seen?) and asks the SS to talk to each other and ask each other these questions.
