In this lesson, students will practice receptive skill Reading. Students will practice their reading skill for three different sub skills, reading for gist, reading for specific information, and reading for details. They will have different exercises, the first one is a question about the general idea of the topic, the second one is fill-in gaps, and the third one is true or false. they will practice the lesson through a topic about rich man traveled to different city to help poor people. Following this, students will practice one productive skill Speaking. The students will discuss three question about the same topic.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about by train, he is a good teacher, he is enjoying his job in the context of the secret millionaire

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of a millionaire man


pre-reading (3-5 minutes) • lead-in / to generate interest in the topic of the lesson

T using power point, shows a picture contains a fancy car, huge house and private plane. T asks his students a question. Who can buy these expensive things? After the students answer this question. T asks another question which is going to lead to pre-teach vocabulary. The question is, What can rich people buy?

pre-reading (4-6 minutes) • pre-teach vocabulary. to pre-teach key lexis needed to help students understand the text

using power point, T will show pictures of new vocabulary in the reading text, to help Ss to understand it. T will show pictures and try to elicit the meaning from Ss. T writes the new words and show the stress syllable of each word.

while reading (4-6 minutes) • reading for gist, to encourage Ss to read for general understanding

T provides reading handout for Ss to practice their receptive skill,they will read quickly and make a general idea of the topic to practice one sub-skill reading for gist .Then T asks a general question about the topic to see what Ss understood from it.

while-reading (9-10 minutes) • reading for specific information, to familiarize Ss with the text

T provides Ss with fill-in gaps activity. Ss in this activity will fill the gaps and answer the questions. After answering the questions, Ss work in pair and check their answers while the teacher writes the correct answers on WH. In this activity they will practice receptive sub-skill scanning.

while-reading (9-11 minutes) • reading for details, for Ss to understand the text in depth

T provides HO for Ss to answer true or false questions and write the correct answer for false ones. Ss are working individually to answer these sentences and then in pairs they will check their answers, in this exercise Ss will practice another reading sub-skill which is reading for details. T in this exercise also writes the correct answers for the students to correct their mistakes.

post reading (4-6 minutes) • speaking activity, to develop oral fluency on the topic

T gives three questions for Ss to discuss about. In groups students will discuss and give their opinions and then one students from each group will share his/her group answers.
