Description

In this lesson, students will learn about be/get used to in the context of working animals. The lesson starts with a discussion about how helpful and loyal dogs can be.This is followed by a listening task about interview with a trainer of guide of dogs for the blind, in this listening task SS will be presented to the target language. At the end students will be provided with a freer speaking activity where they can reflect one what they have learnt.

  • To provide fluency and freer speaking activity about how animals are deployed by human.

Procedure

Warmer-lead in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest and create a context for the topic

-T starts by asking SS if they have pets? do they need for help or leisure? -Teacher projects a picture of a blind man accompanied by his dog and ask students the following questions: - what do you see in the picture? -How does the dog help the man in the photo? -In what other ways do dogs help people? -how is the relation between a dog and it's owner?

Listening task (9-10 minutes) • To practice listening for gist and specific information in order to highlight the target language.

- SS will listen to an interview with a trainer of guide dogs for the blind. - SS listen to the record only once and answer the following questions: - What is the text about? - What is Beth's job? As a quick feedback, T asks SS for their answers. -Teacher asks SS to listen again and work in pairs to state true/false (HO1) where they will be introduced to the target language - T asks students for their answer as a feedback.

Clarification (10-13 minutes) • To clarify the form,meaning and pronunciation of the TL

Meaning: T gives students HO3 which includes a chart and they have to put the extracts in the right column - In pairs, students have to match the sentences to their correct description. - SS check their answers with each other and give their answers as a feedback -Teacher highlights the meaning of be used to and get used to. Form: . -. - teacher writes both sentences on the board. - Teacher clarifies the form and how the two sentences are constrcuted ( refer to the LA sheet). Pronunciation: -Teacher highlights the stress and show the phonological issues in used to. - Teacher drills and use back chain to practice the prnunciation.

Controlled practice (1-10 minutes) • To provide controlled written practice focused on using the language accurately.

Task 1 - T regroups SS and give them HO4 in which they have to circle the correct verb form to complete the sentences. -T asks SS to check their answers with each other before they go to the other classroom to correct their answers. Task 2 -SS are given HO 5 in which they have to complete the ext with be used to / get used to / used to. - SS have to check their answers with each other before given an answer key as a feedback.

Free practice/ speaking (1-7 minutes) • To provide students with free speaking practice

- T gives SS HO 6 which includes two pictures and a box of useful language. - in pairs,( A&B) SS compare and contrast the two pictures and then decide what is the link between them. -ask students to report back briefly on anything interesting they heard in their discussions.
