Procedure (38-44 minutes)
Share Google Slides TP8 Lead-in Teacher asks students the following questions. Side 1. Introduction (Let's Make a Change! The Ideal Self) Slide 2. Where do I work? (A factory picture of seats being made on and assembly line) Slide 3. What do I do? (I am a supervisor and a maintenance repair person). Slide 4. What is happening (This is what a bad day feels like) Slide 5. How do I feel? (stressed) Slide 6. What changes did I make? (I am becoming a fitness instructor and an English Teacher) Slide 7. What is your ideal self? (What changes do you you want to make?)
Teacher says: "Now let's read about someone else who wants to make positive changes." Text to use: This year, Carla wants to make some positive changes in her life. She enjoys cooking, and she hopes to learn to make healthier meals. She keeps forgetting to bring lunch to work, so she often buys fast food. Carla has decided to stop eating late at night, and she plans to start going to the gym after work. She needs to improve her energy levels, and she wants to feel more confident by the summer. T shares the form and instructs the students to read for gist and answer two questions. What is the main idea of the paragraph? Is Carla trying to make a change to her career, her routine, or her family situation. Ss have 2 minutes Instructions: Read the paragraph quickly. Answer two multiple choice questions and click submit. What is the main idea of the paragraph? (Ways to eat healthier) Is Carla trying to change her career, her health, or her relationships? (her health) ICQs: 1. Are you reading the paragraph quickly? or slowly? (quickly) 2. Are you going to click the "submit" button after you are finished? (yes)
Meaning 1. Google Slides TP8 MFP and CP TL 2. There is are two sides of the slide. Things you do, did or like to do. Along the bottom are 8 tiles the Ss can move. I keep forgetting my keys in the morning. I enjoy cooking. I stopped eating junk food. I plan to drink more water this week. I plan to wake up earlier. I hate eating seafood. I need to start exercising. I want to cook more at home. 3. The Ss are to move the tiles to the side appropriate to the tile. 4. T will demonstrate an example of each side. Ss have 2 minutes. ICQs: Are you choosing the correct side based on the meaning? (yes) Do you moving the sentences or writing new ones? (moving them to the correct side.) The Ss will work on this together or in BOR. OCFB Review slides 5 and six discuss the rules of -ing and infinitive use. CCQs "Carla wants to make..." Is this an intention, (desire), or an activity she already does? (it is a desire) "She enjoys cooking..." Is this something she likes to do or has plans to do? (the likes to do it) Form: Share slide TP8 "and" and "to" FORM. T identifies that after some words we use the "ing" after the main verb and "to" after other main verbs. T instructs the students to select the the correct multiple choice, (ing or to), for "avoid", "enjoy", "want" and "plan". ICQs: Do you look at the examples before choosing? (yes) Are you checking the pattern or guessing? (check the pattern) OCFB Pronunciation: T shares Google Slide with the following sentences: "I enjoy reading", "I need to stop eating late", "I want to exercise more", "I plan to drink more water." With an icon of a carrot along the bottom. The students are instructed to move the carrot over the word, (or part of the word that is emphasized. T will assign a slide to each student and play a recording of the sentences and wait for the students to make their selections. OCFB with answer key. T will have the students practice saying the sentences.
T shares TP MFP and CP TL slide again. Slides 12 - 15 T instructs the Ss to move the check mark over the correct form of the to / ing verb. T demonstrates the moving the check mark. Students can discuss the options in BOR or the T will turn off his camera. (if there are not enough Ss). Ss have 3 minutes. OCFB
T will split the Ss into BOR or turn off his camera, (depending on numbers) Ask you partner: Ask you partner: 1. What do you enjoy doing? 2. What do you want to start doing? Follow up questions. 3. Why? 4. How often do you do it now? 5. When do you want to start? 6. What is stopping you? 7. Will you do it by yourself or with someone else? 8. Where will you do it?
T collects a couple samples of good language use and language use for correction.
