During this lesson, Ss will learn about ''tadverbs of manner'' through a guided discovery approach in the context of day to day activities. Ss will be introduced to the topic using pictures, and they will be exposed to the target language in the lead-in using a diary of a boy describing his mother to help them identifying the form of the target language. Ss will be doing most of the activities in pairs and in groups in order to keep it Ss centred and for the sake of peer teaching. Finally, there is a speaking task based on a dialogue.

Main Aims

  • • To provide clarification and practice for adverbs of manner.

Subsidiary Aims

  • • To provide a fluency practice for Ss in the context of day to day activities.


Lead-in: (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context for the Ss

Teacher project pictures of people doing different activities. Ask Ss if they do any of these activities.

(4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text.

T passes HO.1 Ss read for the gist. Ex.1 Ss read the text together to find out who is talking about who in the text. Ss compare their answers with their pairs and then teacher writes the correct answer on the board. Ss read for specific information. Ss read the text and underline the adverbs on the board.

Highlight the target language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight the target langauge for Ss.

. Ex.2 Ss in pairs comple the sentences with the right words from the text. Ss compare their answers with other pairs. Ss feedback on the board. teacher check for any inconsistent answers.

Clarifying the target language (16-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language.

Teacher gives HO2. Ss in groups read sentences with adverbs and they have to choose the correct explanation of the adverb in the sentence (a/b).and stick the sentence and the correct explanation on the bord. the group that finishes first wins the game. teacher checks the answers. Teacher gives HO3 *Ss work in groups of 3 to read the sentences and write correct form in front of each sentence. Ss check the other groups answers. Teacher nominates each Ss to feedback on the board. * CCQs on the form Ss in the same groups read sentences carefully and answer with yes or no. teacher monitors to check their answers. Teacher writes the modal sentences on the board. + she drives carefully. +she doesn't eat well + do i walk slowly? mark the stress and back chain

Controlled practice: (2-4 minutes) • To provide Ss with controlled practice focused on using the language accuratly

Ss read and fill in the gap with the right adverb from the box. Ss compare their answers with each others. Teacher nominates Ss to feedback on the board.

Freer practice: (3-4 minutes) • To prvide Ss with freer parctice to use the language productively.
Speaking (3-5 minutes) • Ss practice their speaking.
