Workshop 1 - MFP and CCQs
Teacher training level
Description
Main Aims
-
To provide a model based on a text-based approach in order to show how receptive skills can be staged communicatively.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification, review and practice of a receptive skill lesson as well as of the formulation of effective CCQs
Procedure (67-86 minutes)
Ask teachers to select one of the llamas they identify with according to their current mood. Then, welcome participants and remind them the important requirements to follow during the workshop. Show teachers the questions: "What is the most important stage in a lesson plan?" and "How do you check students understood the lesson?" Let teachers write their answers on the chat
Let teachers know they are about tobe part of a lesson to practice a receptive skill (reading). Ask them to think about the stages I am using for the demonstration and tell them to take notes on each stage. Follow the stages of a receptive skill lesson using a text about CCQs
DECOMPRESSION: Ask teachers to share their ideas in pairs, so they can try to discover the stages. Then, elicit some answers from the group Use wayground to make teachers compete and discover the correct staging. Make sure to take some time to answer some questions teachers may have before going on. REFLECTION: Provide teachers with the thinking routine "Connect, extend, Challenge" so they can synthesize and develop the concepts studied. Teachers work in one of the 4 different groups. One person collects their thought. Then, each group writer presents their ideas to all participants.
Ask teachers to design a brief lesson of 30 min including the formulation of CCQs. Share a Word file with the stages. Teacners work individually on the file and prepare their lesson. Organize pairs so they can present their lesson to one another.
Show teachers some CCQs they have written and ask the participants to rewrite and make the Qs better. Check answers and remind them the important elements of CCQs as well as the stages needed for receptive skills. Answer any remaining question and close the workshop by providing the topic of the next one.
