Description

In this lesson, Ss will read about A day at the Seaside. They will discuss the things that might spoil such a day. They also will talk about the things they would like to do during their holiday

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about A Day at the Seaside in the context of Escape

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a the favorite type of the holiday in the context of seeking for pleasue

Procedure

Lead In (4-5 minutes) • To activate Ss' existing knowledge of the topic. - To generate interest in the topic of the lesson

To ask the students where they would love to go right now instead of sitting in class. They will provide reasons for their choices.Then, the students will be divided into three groups to answer three questions about the beach. There will be a speaker from each unit to answer the three questions

Prediction Task (2-3 minutes) • To encourage Ss to think about the content of the text and give them a reason to read the text

I will display two pictures of the beach and I wll ask students about them. Then, Iwll ask them about their prediction to the content of the lesson.

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare the students to the reading task and make them interested in the topic

I will ask them to list the different things that might spoil a day at the seaside. they can check in pairs. Getting feedback from the whole class.

Reading for gist (5-7 minutes) • To encourage Ss read for general understanding.

Ss will be given plenty of time to read the article to find out if the writer mentions any of their suggestions in the prior activity and id so what these things are. Ss check their answers in pairs. Doing WCFB by listening to the Ss' answers.

Clarifying Language (3-4 minutes) • To help Ss understand the key vocabulary in the text.

I will explain the key vocabulary on the board by introducing their meanings, forms and pronunciation.

Reading for specific information (3-5 minutes) • To practice reading for specific information(scanning)

I will write some words on the board and Ss have to tell me the numbers of their lines in the text. I might write the key words here and get the students elicit their meanings especially if I didn't do it in the prior stage.

Reading for detail (6-8 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension

Ss will read some true or false sentences, then they will read the text again in details to decide whether these sentences are true or false..They can check with their partners. Then WCFB in which Ss have to justify their answers or give reasons.

Post reading (Speaking task) (7-8 minutes) • To develop oral fluency on the topic - To provide opportunity to personalize the topic

Ss have to stand up and look for their favorite type of holiday from the pictures hung on the walls. Each picture or holiday type should have no more than two learners. They work in pairs discussing each other about this type of holiday. then, they can tell the class why they chose this type trying to convince the other to try it.
