In this lesson, Students will practice reading as a receptive skill and some of the sub skills based on a reading text about the teen idol Justin Bieber's new album , "My world".


Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about celebrities in the context of justin Bieber's new album, My world
  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about Justin Bieber in the context of justin Bieber's new album, My world

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of some new vocabulary about music in the context of Justin Bieber's new release album, "My world".
  • To provide product writing practice of a musical album review in the context of justin Bieber's new album, My world


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After greeting the students and creating a good rapport with the students, The teacher will begin the lesson with a "Gues Who?" game. The teacher will make pairs and he will stick a black photo with a big question mark on it on the WB and then he will explain the rules of the game. He will use some ICQs to check the students' understanding. The students will have a chance to revise and practice Yes/No questions in the context of a game.

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this pre- reading stage, the teacher will teach some new vocabulary that will help the students to understand the upcoming reading text better. Taking the MFU in to consideration in vocabulary teaching, the teacher will firstly focus on meaning. To have a better understanding the teacher will make up a story that will include the target vocabulary. After using CCQs, the teacher will continue with the form(spelling and pronunciation,drilling). After drilling the words as a whole class, the teacher will focus on the use (part of the speech,register etc.) of the vocabulary

While-Reading1 (6-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

in the while reading stage, the teacher will make pairs. The students will be given three small paragraphs and they will put the paragraph in to correct order to make the reading text. The students will have to read the paragraphs to put them in to the correct order. The teacher will get feedback from some of the students and give answers. After reading the text, the students will be given another HO. The students will make full sentences with the sentence halves given. The teacher will get feedback from the students and give the correct answers.

While-Reading2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

As an alternative activity, If the teacher has time, he will be able to ask some gist and main idea questions by nominating some of the uninterested students to involve them in to the lesson.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

This will be an integrated activity which is a combination of both receptive and productive skills. As it will be a guided writing activity, the students will be given an HO about Kathy Perry's new release album and They will fill the blanks with the information given. They will also make use of the reading text about Justin Bieber's new release album. As this will be a group work, the teacher will make small groups. The teacher will set a time period and will count down.This will create a competition amongst groups. The teacher will get feedback and correct the mistakes(if any).
