Description

In this lesson Ss will practice reading , vocabulary and speaking on a text about "What to wear". at the beginning of the lesson they will discuss different types of cloths and when and where to wear each type. the teacher put Ss in pairs introduce the text and give them few minutes to discuss and few minutes to answer the questions 2a followed by a WC discussion. Ss will read again the text and answer the questions 2b. after that Ss will underline somme words in the text that that match the given definitions and then Ss will nwork in groups to match some words with their meanings .Finally, Ss will work in their groups to discuss the questions exercise 4a.

Main Aims

  • Reading : To provide Ss with the opportunity to read and talk about different cloth , when and where we wear each type .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide with speaking opportunities and introduce related vocabulary in the context of cloths .

Procedure

warmer/ lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To engage students and generate their interest in the topic

T will project some pictures of different types of cloths which are familiar to them and they can find them in their country. Ss have to guess the names of the cloths . When and where they may wear each type of cloths. After that Ss will be given some questions related to the pictures and they will be given few minutes to discuss them in pairs .

Pre-reading (3-4 minutes) • To prepare Ss for the text and pre-teach vocabulary

T will explain the meaning of some difficult words that may block Ss' understanding . T will elicit the words from Ss and ask some CCQs to make sure that Ss understand the meaning correctly. T will acknowledge that they will have to read the text quickly and they don't need to read word by word to understand and they have to read individually to match the letters (1-3) to the answers (A-C).

reading for gist (5-7 minutes) • For Ss to understand the overall idea of the text

T gives Ss the handouts and asks them to read the text quickly and individually to answer the question Ex: 2a. SS will be given few minutes to skim the text quickly and answer the questions individually. The teacher will make sure that each student is on task and working alone. When they finish Ss will discuss their answers in pairs and then some of the students will be invited to write the answer on the WB.

Reading for details (8-10 minutes) • to provide Ss with opportunities to comprehend what the text is saying in closer details

For further details, the teacher asks Ss to read again the text individually and answer the questions Ex 2b. The teacher will make the instructions clear and ask some ICQs to make sure that Ss understand what they have to do. Ss will be given enough time to scan and read the text , when it is time Ss discuss their answers in pairs and after that the teacher will give them the answer key to check and compare their answers.

Controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • to provide Ss with more meaningful practice and to check students' understanding .

The teacher will raise Ss’s awareness about the importance of understanding the meaning of words from the context. Therefore, the teacher explains that they will be given some words and they have to work individually in order to guess the meaning of those words according to the context. as FB some students will get the keys to read them loudly for other Ss to check their answers.

Speaking (5-7 minutes) • To allow Ss practice their productive skills and improve their oral fluency.

Ss will work in groups to discuss the questions 3b . T will monitor to make that all Ss are on task and talking about the topic and give help when needed. When its time Ss discuss their answers with the whole class.

vocabulary (5-6 minutes) • To train Ss on how to rely on the context to understand unfamiliar words.

Back in pairs and Ss have to match the meaning of given words to their definitions.T will tell Ss to go back to the text if they need help. After they finish T will give each student an answer to one or more questions to read out loud and others correct their answers simultaneously.

If time allows activity (7-9 minutes) • To provide Ss with more speaking opportunities and to use the current learnt vocabulary

Ss will be given a least of questions to ask their friends, about what they wear in different occasions. Ss have to write the name of student and the type of clothes he/she wears in the given occasions. T will monitor to make sure that Ss are on task and they are using the target language. When they finish each students will talk about the person he/talked to and what kind of dress he/she wears in the given occasions.
