Main Aims

warmer (5-7 minutes) • to engage students and to set context

start the class with : what do you remember from your childhood?(on board) students talk in small groups. try to elicit the use of ' i was born i ..., i was grew up in...'. then students share with the whole class.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • to provide context for the target language through the text

students look at the picture and talk about it and guess about their conversation (talk in pairs) (books closed) they listen and take notes and check with partner (books closed). for the last time they check it with the reading part in their books. then they do exercise C of their books.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • to draw students' attention to the gramatical part

Teacher boards some sentences like : where were you born ?; how long did you live in ...?; did you live there for a long time ? Students start asking the questions from their partners( letting them to come up with the rule on their own and using ' FROM, THEN,LAST YEAR,IN 13... ). Then as volunteers, students start to talk about their own life or their partners' life and share it with other students. this is while the teacher monitors the students for correct pronunciation of 'DID YOU'.

controlled practice (4-7 minutes) • to re-enforce the specified language point (simple past and time experssions)

students work on exercise A and check in small groups .then listen and check again.for the last part they have a whole class check .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • to allow the students to practice the language point in an unrestricted manner

board the sentence : 'what do you like to know about your friends' ?students can make a list of some questions they'd like to know about their friends and have interview with other students in their class.
